Executive Summary

Leveraging elements from AgencyAgile’s proven team-based, WFH-friendly trainings, this course is grounded in behavioral and organizational research that informs how computer-mediated communications (CMCs) impact knowledge worker teams and their productivity.

Designed primarily for core managerial roles, such as project and client service managers, it is also useful for leaders throughout the organization, and the techniques can be used to align and coordinate managerial and leadership teams also struggling with dislocation.

Syllabus

This five-session online interactive course will give you an end-to-end view of the core success factors and methods needed to manage dislocated teams, groups of workers that normally are co-located, but now dispersed and working from their homes:

  • The challenges and opportunities of the dislocated workforce: An introduction to the course, alignment on objectives and participant needs, coupled with a wide-ranging overview of what changes for teams when they become dispersed into a WFH environment.
  • Policy, platform and protocol essentials: Critical choices face the newly-WFH organization, including a whole new set of decisions regarding hygienic workplace factors such as safety, work hours, availability, tools and communications choices.
  • Synchronizing teams and status: Dislocated teams and their managers face new challenges in replacing the “ambient” status and communications capabilities of the shared workplace. We’ll teach a lightweight version of our high-efficiency daily check-in methods that is suitable for virtually any size team up to 30 people, enabling your teams to quickly re-sync daily or as needed.
  • Tracking progress and personal accountability: Remote workers can feel harder to manage because work progress transparency is often much lower; this often includes the sense that some workers may take advantage of the lower level of direct supervision. We’ll teach the use of a “reporting kanban” to improve transparency and also spur a sense of personal accountability in the WFH worker.
  • Creating alignment and understanding within teams: Communications quality drops dramatically in a WFH environment, especially in the case of work assignments that involve teams (kick-offs or handoffs). Verbal and written communications work especially poorly when not supported properly with a collaborative and learning dialog.  We’ll teach some of the key comms techniques from our highly-rated briefings and scoping trainings, including how to create an ownership-based dialog in virtual WFH-style settings.
